about

Emmanuel (Hebrew עִמָּנוּאֵל "God with us") stems from a 15th Century processional of French Franciscan nuns. Lyrics drawn from various antiphons during the 12th century and translated from Latin in 1851.

Vocals: Robert Deeble / Tara Ward
Guitar, Noise & Pump Organ: Robert Deeble
Vibrakeys and engineering by: Jordan Walton
Painting: "Again This Place" by Jen Grabarczyk

Instruments: "The Antaries Guitar - an odd no-name French electric given to me in the mid 90's by Miles Williams (an anglican priest for playing his parish)... played through a 1965 Vibrolux (no pedals), one Kimball pump organ dated 1897, and one Yamaha organ from the 70's (on vibe setting)."

lyrics

LYRICS
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.

(Refrain) Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
and order all things far and nigh.
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.

O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
